Abstract

An intensive survey for cultural resources was conducted prior to the construction of Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed 5.6 ha (13.9 ac) Attica 12kV switching station in Jackson County, Georgia. The property formerly consisted of cotton fields, and terraces are evident throughout. The survey located only one cultural resource, a low density scatter of quartz artifacts (9Jk85), along the western boundary of the tract. The Principal Investigator recommends that the site is ineligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, and no further work or site protection is warranted. Construction should not affect any significant cultural resources and should be allowed to proceed.
