Abstract

This project is a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) infrastructure project that would construct sidewalks at C. A. Gray Junior High School (JHS) and would provide additional lighting along the Tom White Linear Park (TWLP) trail (Figures 1 &2). Sidewalks at JHS would be constructed along Northside Drive, Elliot Brown Street, and 11th Avenue NW. The proposed sidewalks would be 5 feet in width, constructed within the roadway ROW or on school property. Approximate ·lengths of proposed sidewalk would be: 1,100 linear feet constructed on the south side of Northside Drive; 400 linear feet along the westside of Elliot Brown Street; and 700 linear feet along the north side of 11th Avenue NW. Portions of the existing parking area at the comer of 11th Avenue NW and Elliot Brown Street may be utilized to complete the sidewalk along 11th Avenue NW without installing new concrete sidewalk. Some existing parking spaces would require reconfiguration or removal to allow space to convert portions of the existing asphalt parking lot for use as sidewalk. (Figure 3).

Additional lighting along the TWLP from \Nest Boulevard to 12th Avenue would be consistent with lighting previously installed on adjacent sections of the trail - 400 Watt LED luminaires on cobra head fixtures mounted on existing wooden utility poles spaced approximately 400 f8et apart at a mast height of 30 feet The proposed lighting would utilize existing wooden utility poles wherever practical; four new wooden utility poles would be installed where required (Figure 4).
