Abstract

This project proposes to construct a new alignment urban collector roadway connecting North Westover Boulevard and Ledo Road. The proposed project would begin within the city limits of Albany near the Albany Mall (in Dougherty County) and would extend northward, under U.S. 82/SR 520/Liberty Expressway (Liberty Expressway), to Ledo Road at the intersection of Ledo Road and the Westover Extension Boulevard (in Lee County). The proposed roadway would consist of four 12-foot travel lanes, two in each direction, with right and left turn lanes as needed. Five-foot sidewalks would be provided on the west side of the proposed roadway and 10-foot sidewalks would be provided on the east side of the roadway to accommodate both pedestrians and bicyclists. Two new bridges and approximately 2,500 feet of construction would be required on Liberty Expressway to accommodate the proposed underpass. The proposed project would also include a roundabout at the intersection with North Westover Boulevard Rear the Albany Mall and would require some reconstruction of the existing Westover Extension Boulevard located on the north side of Ledo Road to improve the tie-in and alignment with the proposed roadway. The proposed corridor would require a maximum width of approximately 89 feet of right of way {ROW); however, project implementation would occur primarily within the existing ROWs for North Westover Boulevard, Liberty Expressway, and Ledo Road. The total project length would be approximately 0.23 mile (1,200ft).
