This railroad crossing safety project consists of the installation of gate arms with flashing lights and a bell. The project location is the Heart of Georgia railroad crossing on County Road (CR) 365/24th Avenue southwest of Cordele, Georgia. Pavement marking and advance warning signage will also be placed along the roadway to the north and south of the existing crossing. Foundations for the two new gate arms will be constructed 8 feet from the edge of pavement and the existing 30 foot wide asphalt and rubber edged crossing surface will be widened to a minimum of 39 feet.
