Abstract

Site 9HK253 represents Granite Hill Plantation, a nineteenth-century plantation complex located in Hancock County, Georgia. Granite Hill was the circa 1855 Greek Revival style home of Andrew Jackson Lane (1822-1866). Site 9HK253 was initially recorded in 2006 by Webb and Associates (Jordan and Finney 2006) and recommended eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP); both the Savannah District, US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Georgia Historic Preservation Division (GHPD) staff concurred with that recommendation. In 2007, a Programmatic Agreement (PA) was developed and signed between Rinker Materials, Savannah District USACE, and the GHPD, outline stipulations concerning development of 9HK253 and other NRHP eligible and potentially eligible sites in the Granite Hill development tract (Appendix C).
