Abstract

The proposed project is the replacement of the bridge on State Route (SR) 47 over Little River/Lake Strom Thurmond, 10.5 miles southeast of Lincolnton. The construction proposes to relocate SR 47 approximately 31-45 ft. east of its existing location, extending a total of 1.34 miles, so that the project begins at Mile Post (MP) 16.25 in Lincoln County and ends at MP 0.85 in Columbia County. The proposed new bridge structure will be 3600~ft. x 40-ft., and the relocated SR 47 will consist of one 12-ft. travel lane in each direction with 6-ft. rural shoulders. Shoulders will be widened to 11.5-ft. to accommodate guardrail as needed. The existing right-of-way for SR 47 varies from 100-ft. to 530-ft. near the bridge. Permanent easements would be required from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for the construction and maintenance of slopes. These easement would vary in width from 8-ft. to 35-ft. in width. Additional right-of-way would not be required.
