Abstract

The Georgia Department of Transportation proposes to realign SR 122/Carswell Avenue to soften the sharp reverse curves that currently exist between Corbitt Road and Pine Valley Road/CR 68 to reduce car crash frequency and severity. The current plans offer three possible alternatives.

Alternative 1 is approximately 0.9 miles in length and would shift SR 122 to the north of the existing road.

Alternative 2 is approximately 0. 75 miles in length and would shift the road to the south of the current placement.

Alternative 3 is approximately 0. 77 miles in length and would maintain the road on the existing alignment but would increase the radii of the reverse curves. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is 100 feet. The proposed ROW for Alternatives 1 and 2 would be 100 feet, while Alternative 3 would vary between 100-175 feet. The APE is limited to the proposed ROW and viewshed of the project.
