Abstract

This project would consist of the construction of a grade separation on SR 38/US 84 at the Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing west of downtown Valdosta in Lowndes County for a total project distance of approximately 0.62 mile. A 300-ft long concrete bridge would be constructed to cross the railroad as well as frontage roads that would be constructed parallel to SR 38/US 84 and alongside the barrier walls to provide access to local businesses and residents. The bridge typical section would consist of four 12-ft travel lanes with 6-ft sidewalk on both sides and a barrier wall at the back of the sidewalk. South Thomas Street would be closed and relocated approximately 535 feet to the east of its present location. Recent changes to the project include the addition of permanent easements, temporary easements, and remnant parcels (see attached plan sheets for more detail).
