Abstract

The proposed project is part of a larger project for which field studies were approved in 2007. The 2007 project proposed to widen Salem Road from Brown Bridge Road to Flat Shoals Road from two lanes to four lanes with turn lanes at key intersections and 20 feet of raised medians and sidewalks. The proposed project extended north 23,760 feet (4.5 miles) along Salem Road from approximately 1,500 feet south of Brown Bridge Road to Interstate 20 (I-20). Approximately 4,000 feet of new location was included in the 2007 survey to provide a bypass around the west side of the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Since 2007, the project description has changed to include the upgrading of 13 intersections along Salem Road as well as starting the project 1,800 feet south of Brown Bridge Road instead of 1,500 feet as surveyed in 2007. This survey addresses these additional survey areas (see Figures 1-7).

The existing right-of-way (ROW) is 80-100 feet and the proposed ROW would be approximately 150 feet. The proposed project is approximately 6,460 feet (1.22) miles long.
