Abstract

The proposed project would replace the existing structurally deficient bridge on Fayette County Road (CR) 360/McIntosh Road/Spalding County CR 502 over the Flint River. The proposed project is located in Fayette County between mileposts 1.88 and 2.08 and in Spalding County between mileposts 0.0 and 0.2 on Fayette CR 360/McIntosh Road/Spalding CR 502, approximately two miles east of the town of Brooks, for a total project length of approximately 0.4 mile. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is 80 feet wide. The existing bridge over the Flint River is 544 feet in length and 25.8 feet in width. It has two 10-foot travel lanes, a 15-inch shoulder on the north side, and a 30-inch shoulder on the south side of the bridge. The proposed replacement project would be 345-feet long and 36 feet in width with two 12-foot travel lanes, 36-inch shoulders on both sides, and 18-inch concrete barriers on both sides. The new bridge would be constructed on the same alignment and the roadway would be closed to through traffic during construction. Traffic would utilize an off-site detour during construction. The project would require no additional right-of-way but would require construction easements.

GT Hill Planners Corporation conducted the original Phase I Archaeological Survey for this project in 2011 (Koch 2012). The present survey addresses an additional 400 feet of proposed easements.
