Abstract

This project is currently under construction and is widening and reconstructing US 441/SR 24 from just north of CR 245/Cay Road the Eatonton Bypass at US 129/SR 44 (Figure 1). The existing roadway varies from two lanes to three or four lanes in areas with passing lanes with rural shoulders. Existing right-of-way (ROW) is approximately 115 to 138 feet. The project is widening the roadway throughout the project area to four lanes with a 44 foot depressed grassed median, 10 foot shoulders and a 6.5 foot bike lane on both sides of the roadway. For this project, a 250 foot corridor was originally surveyed by Brockington and Associates in 1998. Since the original survey, six archaeological reevaluations have been conducted due to various changes to the project description.
