Abstract

The proposed project would involve the widening and realignment of US 84/SR 38 through Clinch and Ware Counties. The project would begin approximately 650 feet west of the US 84/SR 38 bridge over Woodyard Creek within the Homerville city limits and extend eastward to the intersection of the US 84/SR 38 and Wadley Glenmore Avenue, west of the city limits of Waycross. The proposed right-of-way (ROW) ranges from 200 feet to 250 feet to either side of the centerline of the proposed roadway. In areas of new location, the ROW is 250 feet. The sections of new location are located around Argyle, Ruskin, and Wahoma. The total length of the project is approximately 24.4 miles.

The existing two lane highway would be reconstructed to a four lane divided facility with a center median, except for a section of the Argyle bypass. The typical section for PI 422120 starting from Woodyard Creek and ending at Peagler Crossing/CR 9 is proposed for two lanes.

In addition, two roundabout intersections will be added to the proposed project corridor. Roundabout No. 1 will be located at the west end of the US 84/SR 38 bypass. Roundabout No. 2 will be located at the east end of the Argyle Bypass. The roundabout design will consist of a 200-foot inscribed circle, 24-foot driving lanes, 15-foot truck apron, and an 8-foot sidewalk. The roundabout design will allow drivers the option of travelling through the city of Argyle or utilizing the bypass.

In the previous addendum (McKay 2014b), Parcei49-A was purchased for a temporary demolition easement just west of the eastern roundabout, north of US 84/SR 38. The parcel measures approximately 1 acre. The temporary easement is approximately 0.15 acre.
