Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site includes a proposed 120-foot by 120-foot telecommunications compound located on the Berry College Campus. The facility would include a 195-foot monopole (199-feet with appurtenances) telecommunications structure and associated ground level support equipment. The facility is located off Fairfield Drive, on the Berry College Campus in Mount Berry, Georgia. The original site location was directly east of the Emery Barn Complex. The new site location is approximately 375-feet directly west of the original site location.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the proposed site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. From our review of available cultural records and databases we identified one archaeological report that was conducted for a pedestrian sidewalk improvement at the entrance of the Berry College Campus. No cultural resources were discovered during this 2004 survey. Further, no archaeological sites were encountered during the course of the Phase I intensive field survey portion of this archaeological assessment.

We conclude that the proposed undertaking would have no affect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological cultural resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the proposed undertaking.
