Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site includes a proposed 5,000-foot compound and an existing approximately 30-foot by 295-foot access route traversing in a southerly direction from Buck Creek Road to the compound as shown on Attachment 12b. Clearing and grading would be necessary for construction of the proposed telecommunications compound and a portion of the access. The facility would include a 250-foot self-supporting lattice-type telecommunications structure (255- feet with appurtenances) and associated ground level support equipment. The facility is located near Buck Creek Road, near Hawkinsville, Pulaski County, Georgia.
This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases three recorded archaeological sites and one survey report were found within a ¾ -mile radius of the project site.
All of these recorded sites are located along Highway 341. Two have been determined ineligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The third site, 9PU97, is located approximately 1030-feet southwest of the project site. In 2004 it was determined potentially eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
The purpose of the GA DOT survey report was to locate, identify, and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor of the proposed widening of 10.2 miles of Highway 341. No existing or potentially eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within this project corridor.
During the course of our Phase I intensive field survey segment of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered. Then, we conclude that the proposed undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the proposed undertaking.
