Abstract

The project length on West Bay Street has changed. The previous project limits were stated to begin at West Lathrop Avenue and end at East Lathrop Avenue, for a project length of 1.1miles. The actual project limits extend slightly west and east of these start and end points. The project begins approximately 400 feet west of West Lathrop Avenue, and ends approximately 500 feet east of East Lathrop Avenue, for a project length of approximately 1.3 miles. The proposed alignment of West Bay Street has not changed.

The project limits have also been extended along several side streets connecting to West Bay Street. The intersections were a part of the proposed project to construct turning radii, curb and gutter, and sidewalks, but construction limits have been extended to provide smooth tie-ins and adequate drainage on the side streets near their intersections with West Bay Street. With the exception of Carolan Street, travel lane widths and alignments will not change. Carolan Street would be widened to the east to accommodate three travel lanes (a northbound through lane, and a southbound through lane and southbound left turn lane}. The travel lanes would be widened from 11feet to 12 feet. A new entrance road is currently under construction at the Sustainable Fellwood development (the site of the former Fellwood Homes housing development owned by the Housing Authority of Savannah}. The Sustainable Fellwood developer removed one of the live oak trees along the front of the development in order to construct the development's new entrance road. Widening Carolan Street to the east as part of the proposed West Bay Street project allows for a better alignment with this new entrance road, and also facilitates the protection of the remaining live oaks. The project length on each of the side streets is included in Table 1 below.
