Abstract

Authorization for this project was received May 18, 1977 and work commenced June 4, 1977, immediately upon completion of the Flint River Outfall Sewer, Site "E", authorized on the same date.

Pates Creek's project area lies in eastern Clayton County, beginning at the Henry County line and extending westward for a distance of approximately 26,000 feet to the Central of Georgia Railroad. The North-South distance is approximately 30,000 feet from Noah's Ark Road to McDonough Road. A preliminary report on this area was compiled by Staff Archeologist Marvin T. Smith and submitted in July, 1976, and

September, 1976.

Mitigative measures above were recommended by the Environmental Assessment Officer, Mr. Richard Gingrich, U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, during a consultation between members of the latter agency and staff members of the Archeological Survey of Cobb-Fulton Counties. Of all the above sites, only 9-Cn-51 does not lie adjacent to a proposed buffer zone that can be extended. A new buffer, with extent enough to protect the site from primary or secondary impact, must be created. All other sites, with the exception of 9-Cn-14 and 9-Cn-ยท50 - already within buffer zones, will need merely to extend the buffers to provide the necessary protection from primary or secondary impact.
