Abstract

During the week of April 4, 2016, Brockington and Associates, Inc. completed a background literature review and field investigations for a Phase I archaeological survey for a portion of the proposed Pervis Road - Davisboro - Fiber Run located in eastern Washington County and western Jefferson County, Georgia near the city of Davisboro (Figures 1 and 2). The project corridor originates at the Pervis Road substation in Jefferson County and extends 6.3 miles west to the Azalea Solar Farm along the Washington County Wadley Primary-Davisboro 46 kV electric transmission line roughly paralleling to the north and south of GA-24. The first 4.2 miles of corridor are to be aboveground within previously surveyed Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC) right-of-way (ROW). The remaining 2.1 miles of the fiber optic line will be installed underground within a Georgia Power ROW, and required an archaeological survey. The surveyed segment is within Washington County, and originates at Structure 97 in an agricultural field east of the intersection of GA-24, and extends approximately 2.1 miles west along the existing clear cut corridor to Structure 123 at the Azalea Solar Farm (Figures 3 and 4). The corridor averages <100 feet (30 m) wide. In addition to the corridor, Brockington also assessed five access roads (approximately 1.5 miles total) for archaeological resources.
