Abstract

In May and June of2016, Archaeological Consultants of the Carolinas, Inc. (ACC) conducted an archaeological survey of the cumulative 364 acre Check Redlands Timber Sale. The survey areas included 11 stands in four compartments in northwestern Greene County in the Oconee Ranger District of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest (Table i. I). The survey areas are situated northwest of the town of Greensboro, west of Athens Highway (SR- I 5), and east of the Oconee River.

This investigation has resulted in the documentation and evaluation of six archaeological sites and one isolated find. These sites include three historic house sites and three prehistoric ceramic scatters (Table i.1). The isolated find consists of a single historic ceramic. Four previously recorded resources were mapped within the survey areas but could not be located during this investigation. They are presumed to have been either destroyed since their documentation or misplotted on Georgia Archaeological Site Files maps. None of the archaeological resources evaluated during this investigation are recommended for further work.
