Abstract

TerraXplorations, Inc. (TerraX) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama was contracted by Southern Natural Gas Company, LLC, of Birmingham, Alabama through Woodard & Curran of Duluth, Georgia to conduct a cultural resource survey for the proposed GADOT - SR 133 Hahira line relocation (AFE 206836) project in Brooks County, Georgia. The proposed project will involve the relocation of approximately 333 feet (ft.) (101.49 meters [m]) of the 4” Hahira pipeline. The pipeline will be offset roughly 20 ft. (6.09 m) to provide necessary clearance for construction of the proposed Georgia Department of Transportation (GADOT) State Route (SR) 133 improvements project. The Phase I survey was performed on May 11, 2016 by Kenny Pearce under the supervision of Paul D. Jackson, Principal Investigator. The purpose of this study was to determine if any prehistoric or historic properties exist within the limits of the project area, and if so, to document and assess each based on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) criteria. The lead federal agency for this project is the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

The project area encompasses an approximate 3.63-acre tract. It is located in the northeast portion of Brooks County approximately 1.8 miles (2.91 kilometers [km]) southeast of the small community of Morven along SR 133. The subject property can be found on the 1961 (photorevised 1974) Hahira West, Georgia USGS 7.5’ series topographic quadrangle (Figure 1). Photographs depicting the present state of the land within the project area are provided (Figures 2-5).
