Abstract

The proposed project consists of streetscape improvements and a road diet along Sandy Springs Circle in the City of Sandy Springs, Fulton County, Georgia. The project would extend along Sandy Springs Circle from south of Hammond Drive to Mt. Vernon Highway. The existing 4-lane roadway, which consists of four 12-foot travel lanes (two in each direction) would be reduced to provide one 10-foot northbound travel lane, two 10-foot southbound travel lanes, a 10-foot median/left turn lane, and 8-foot wide on-street parking on the east side of Sandy Springs Circle. The proposed shoulder on the east side of Sandy Springs Circle would consist of a 6-foot wide landscape strip, 10-foot sidewalk, a 2-foot utility/tree strip, and 2-foot curb and gutter. The shoulder on the west side of the roadway would consist of a 6-foot landscape strip, a 12-foot wide multi-purpose path, 2-foot wide grass strip, and a 2-foot curb and gutter from Hammond Drive to approximately 300 feet north of Hammond Drive. The shoulder on the west side of the roadway would consist of a 2-foot utility/tree strip, a 12-foot wide multi-purpose path, a 6-foot landscape strip, and a 2-foot curb and gutter from approximately 300 feet north of Hammond Drive to Mt. Vernon Highway. Adjacent to the Heritage Green, the shoulder typical section would consist of a 2-foot wide curb and gutter, 2-foot wide paver strip, 8-foot wide sidewalk, and a 2-foot utility/tree strip to minimize impacts. Canopy street trees would be spaced 30 to 40 feet apart, and light fixtures with brick panels would be spaced 90 to 100 feet apart on both sides of the road. The proposed sidewalks would be constructed to provide an ADA accessible path along both sides of the roadway. The total length of the proposed project is approximately .4 mile. The proposed project would require approximately .424 acres of additional ROW, 1.184 acres of permanent easement, 1.023 acres of temporary driveway easement, and .13 acres of temporary demolition easement.
