Abstract

The proposed project consists of the replacement of the existing structurally deficient

bridge over the Chattooga River along CR 321/ Taliaferro Springs Road one mile south of the city of Lyerly

in Chattooga County, Georgia. The existing typical section consists of two 9 feet travel lanes with 5 feet

shoulders on 50 feet of right-of-way (ROW). The existing bridge .is a 197 feet x 21.3 feet steel beam structure

on concrete bents with a sufficiency rating of 8.13. The proposed typical section would consist of two 12 feet

travel lanes with 10 feet shoulders (6.5 feet of which would be for added bike lanes) on approximately 95 feet

to 142 feet of ROW. The new bridge would be a concrete structure approximately 480 feet x 37 feet. The

project would begin approximately 2096.96 feet north of the existing bridge and end 904.03 feet south of the

existing bridge. The total project length would be approximately 0.60 mile.
