Abstract

From March 27 through March 31, 2017 Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted a Cultural Resources Survey for the proposed Lewiston 115kV substation and Evans Primary - Fort Gordon #2 115kV Transmission Line (Lewiston Tap) in Columbia County, Georgia. The survey was performed as an act of due diligence for Georgia Power, a Southern Company. The site for the proposed substation is located in Lewiston, Georgia, just south of the intersection of Columbia Road and Lewiston Road/Hereford Farm Road. The route for the associated tap line begins at the existing Evans Primary - Fort Gordon #2 Transmission Line, runs westward along Columbia Road, and turns south to intersect the proposed Lewiston Substation. There are two approaches to the substation being considered when the line turns south from Columbia Road and both approaches were surveyed. The length of the survey corridor is 1.18 miles and the right-of-way (ROW) width is 100 feet. The proposed substation tract consists of 4.6 acres. The Area of Potential Effect (APE) for this project consists of the Lewiston Tap corridor, the substation tract, and the project viewshed. The viewshed is based on a proposed transmission structure height of 100 feet.
