Abstract

The Oconee Ranger District of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests is proposing to harvest timber in Jones County, Georgia on 758 acres in Compartments 7, 9, and 10 using a commercial timber contract). All of the proposed timber harvest area has previously been surveyed (Davis et al. 1989}, with 11 sites being recorded within the Area of Potential Effect. Surveys associated with the present undertaking recorded three new sites. Eight sites are considered not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and will not be protected. The remaining six sites are either eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (9J0163, 9J0170, 9J0377, 9J0379) or are cemeteries (9J0249, 9J0296) and will be protected from all project related activities.
