An intensive cultural resources survey was conducted on the proposed 2.4 ha (6 ac) Dasher substation in south central Lowndes County. Surface inspection and twelve shovel tests showed that no archeological sites exist on the tract. One artifact occurrence, a small chert flake in a shovel test, was recorded and recommended as not eligible to the National Register of Historic Places. One structure that may be 50 years old is barely within view of the proposed substation. Because of an intervening existing substation and transmission line, the proposed substation should have no visual impact on this possibly historic structure. Thus, in regard to cultural resources the principal investigator recommends that no significant resources will be impacted, no further work need be done, and the project be given clearance to proceed.
