Abstract

As part of the Georgia Department of Transportation's (GDOT) Low Impact Bridge Program (LIBP), a potential bridge replacement has been identified along County Road (CR) 137, Spanish Creek Road, located in Charlton County, Georgia. The existing bridge (Bridge ID # 049-0042-0) along CR 137 currently spans a segment of Long Branch approximately 4 miles due west of Folkston, Georgia, and 3 miles east of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The existing bridge measures approximately 140 feet (42 meters) in length and is 20 feet (6 meters) wide. GDOT District 5 plans to replace this bridge due to structural deficiencies present in the existing structure. As a candidate under the LIBP, the proposed survey area for the bridge replacement will be confined to the existing right-of-way (ROW), therefore the investigation of the Expanded Survey Corridor (ESC) was waived.
