Abstract

The proposed Madras Connector would provide connectivity via a new location from United States Highway (US) 29/State Route (SR) 14 (US 29) to the future Interstate (1)-85 at Almajack Boulevard Interchange, as well as a connection to US 29/SR 14 from the Hal Jones Road/Happy Valley Road intersection (Figure 1). This first phase of the project, Madras Connector Phase I, would begin at SR 14/US 29 at the access road to Fire Station #6 and run easterly across CSX Railroad and Herring Road via a new 3-span bridge, and then terminate on the east side of Herring Road with an access road to existing Herring Road. The existing at-grade crossing of Herring Road and CSX would be removed and cui-de-sacs would be designed on each side of the CSX Railroad. The overall project is located on north side of Newnan, GA (Coweta County), and about 2-miles west of 1-85. The proposed typical section of the new Madras Connector Phase I would consist of a new 2-lane rural roadway with 12-ft. travel lanes (one in each direction) separated by a 14-ft. flush median with 8-ft. rural shoulders (4-ft. paved) on each side. The proposed bridge would consist of a 4-lane section with 12-ft. travel lanes (two in each direction) separated by a 14-ft. flush median with 5.5-foot wide sidewalks on either shoulder. The net length of new roadway is 0.5-mile. Intersection improvements would be included in the project at SR 14/ US 29 and Madras Connector, which includes a new roundabout. The acquisition of additional right-of-way (ROW) is anticipated and ROW widths along the completed project would vary from 100-150 feet.
