Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The undertaking consists of a constructed 10-foot by 10-foot (3-meter by 3-meter) area that includes a 79-foot overall height pole structure. The subject site is located near the intersection of Molette Street & Carver Drive, Fort Valley, Peach County, Georgia.

This Archaeological Assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, we found ten previously recorded archaeological sites (9PE22, 9PE31, 9PE39, 9PE40, 9PE41, 9PE42, 9PE46, 9PE49, 9PE50, and 9PE51) and eight previously recorded archaeological surveys (1287, 2872, 7098, 7400, 7408, 7495, 7497, and 8392) within our standard 1-mile background research radius. None of the previously recorded archaeological site or surveys were within or near the APE for direct effects.

ECA conducted an archaeological evaluation of the APE for direct effects consisting of background research utilizing available maps, historic aerial photographs, and Google streetview imagery. Since the project area is within a heavily disturbed right-of-way within a modern subdivision, ECA believes a site visit is unwarranted.

We conclude that the undertaking would not affect any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the undertaking at the project site.
