Abstract

As part of the Georgia Department of Transportation's (GDOT) Low Impact Bridge Program (LIBP), a potential bridge replacement has been identified along County Road (CR) 52, Ralph Davis Road, located in Charlton County, Georgia (Figures 1 and 2). The existing bridge (Bridge ID # 049-5037 -0) along CR 52 currently spans a tributary of Long Branch approximately 4 miles due west of Folkston, Georgia, and 3 miles east of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The existing bridge measures approximately 70 feet (21 meters) in length and is 20 feet (6 meters) wide. GDOT District 5 plans to replace this bridge due to structural deficiencies present in the existing structure. As a candidate under the LIBP, the proposed survey area for the bridge replacement will be confined to the existing right-of-way (ROW), therefore the investigation of the Expanded Survey Corridor (ESC) was waived.
