Abstract

S&ME, Inc. (S&ME) has completed a Cultural Resources Survey for Verizon Wireless in support of the proposed development of a new stealth structure on a 36 feet tall light pole, with antenna, a radio cabinet, a remote radio unit, and associated cabling. The project area is located in the existing parking lot of 3960 Poplar Springs Road, approximately 4.8 miles southwest of the city limits of Ringgold, in Catoosa County, Georgia (Figures 1 and 2).

The proposed construction will consist of a new 36 feet stealth light pole structure with antenna, a radio cabinet, a remote radio unit, and associated cabling in the existing parking lot of 3960 Poplar Springs Road. The tower enclosure and the proposed access road are located in existing parking areas surrounding the school building of 3960 Poplar Springs Road. The area immediately surrounding the project area consists of wooded areas, commercial, and residential areas (Figures 1 and 2). The Area of

Potential Effect (APE) for the proposed tower includes the project area and a surrounding 0.5-mile radius, in accordance with the terms of the Nationwide Programmatic Agreement Regarding the Section 706 National Historic Preservation Review Policy (2004). The APE for direct effects is limited to the project footprint, while the APE for indirect effects consists of a 0.5 -mile radius around the proposed project area.

Background research for the project indicated that there are no previously recorded archaeological sites or historic structures within the 0.5-mile search radius of the project area (Figures 1 and 2). The current survey was conducted on March 24, 2017, and consisted of a pedestrian survey; no archaeological sites or historic structures were identified within the project area.

We conclude that there are no NRHP-listed or eligible cultural resources in the project area. Based on the results of this study, it is S&ME's opinion that no additional cultural resource investigations are necessary within the project area.
