Abstract

Test excavations were carried out at the Farmer’s Bottom site on March 10-14, 2014. These excavations were carried out using volunteers recruited through the Passport in Time program. This work revealed that the Farmer’s Bottom site is a significant prehistoric site that contains evidence for occupations from at least three different time periods. Several features were encountered. The most substantial occupation appears to be a farmstead dating to the Lamar culture of the Late Mississippian period, probably from around AD 1450-1650. The following report is a brief introduction to the work at the site and preliminary interpretations.
