Abstract

The proposed project consists of three improvements. The first improvement is an intersection at SR 155 at Hampton-Locust Grove Road/Bill Gardner Parkway. The intersection improvement begin on SR 155 south of the Hampton-Locust Grove Road/Bill Gardner Parkway intersection (STA 104+84.00) and ends on SR 155 north of the Hampton-Locust Grove Road/Bill Gardner Parkway intersection (STA 119+50.00). The intersection improvements extend along Hampton- Locust Grove Road approximately 505 feet (STA 11+90.00) and along Bill Gardner Parkway approximately 427 feet (STA 21+21.40). Right turn lanes are proposed in both directions on SR 155 at the Hampton-Locust Grove Road/Bill Gardner Parkway intersection in order to separate right turning movements from the mainline. The addition of right turn lanes will reduce the potential for rear end crashes and will improve the operating efficiency of this signalized intersection. Additional right-of-way (ROW) will be acquired to facilitate the proposed addition of the northbound right turn lane from SR 155 onto Bill Gardner Parkway.

The second improvement is a center two-way left turn lane from the existing southbound left turn lane at Greenwood Industrial Pkwy to the intersection at Hunters Chase, where it will become a northbound left turn deceleration lane to provide refuge for left-turning motorists. This improvement begins south of Greenwood Industrial Parkway (STA 210+15.00) and ends at Hunters Chase WB (STA 227+28.21). Improvements extend approximately 70 feet along Hunters Chase (STA 401+95.00).

The third improvement (adjacent to the second improvement) is a flattening of the northbound crest vertical curve between Hunters Chase and Stoney Brook Way on SR 155 to comply with American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) stopping sight distance guidelines. Associated shoulder improvements at this location will also allow the intersection sight distance for left turning motorists onto SR 155 southbound at Southside Court to be in compliance with AASHTO guidelines. This improvement begins at on SR 155 at Hunters Chase WB (STA 227+28.21) and ends on SR 155 north of the intersection at Stoney Brook Way (245+00.00). SR 155 will match existing grade before the intersection at Stoney Brook Way; therefore, improvements will not occur to Stoney Brook Way.

The project improvements meet the corridor’s needs by implementing improvements that will reduce crash frequency and crash severity at select locations on the SR 155 corridor. The project has a total length of .94 miles, all within Henry County. Existing ROW width is 100 feet, and the proposed ROW is variable between 110 and 130 foot.
