Abstract

The survey area is comprised of Compartments 181, 190, 192 and 184, totally slightly more than two thousand acres near the recently completed Lake Wallace sector of Greene County, Georgia. Compartment 184 was not part of the original contract, but was added to replace acreage lost by the filling of the lake. The survey was carried out at the intensive level of investigation, utilizing both documentary evidence and close interval field surveys wherever possible. It is estimated that 83.7% of the total land surface was covered, excepting only those areas of such swampy terrain of extremely dense growth or standing water that site preservation was deemed negligible or insignificant for criteria of the National Register of Historic Places.
