Abstract

TRC conducted a cultural resource survey for the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) proposed Mt. Vernon Road transmission line (TL) project in Catoosa County, Georgia, and Hamilton County Tennessee. The project will install a tap point and switches in the Bradley-Concord No. 1 161-kV transmission line between existing structures 87 and 88 and run 2.2 miles south using right-of-way (ROW) that is 100 feet wide (30 m), crossing the state line into Catoosa County, Georgia. The power line currently in place will be removed, and new line will be built using steel pole structures. The portion of the project within Georgia is approximately 0.361 miles (0.58 km). In Georgia, the archaeological survey covered a 100-foot (30-m) ROW along the entire length, for a total surveyed area of approximately 4.38 acres, or 0.007 square miles. The survey also involved identification and assessment of any historic architectural resources that could be directly or indirectly affected by the project due to changes to their viewshed. The Area of Potential Effects (APE) for historic resources includes an area 0.5 miles (0.8-km) from the TL center line encompassing possible lines of sight to new construction or clearing of vegetation.
