Abstract

The proposed project would begin approximately 1,190 feet west of the bridge and end approximately 1,510 feet east of the bridge. The total project length along SR 52 would be approximately 2,700 feet (0.51 mile). The proposed project would also make improvements to the intersection of SR 52 and SR 323. The project length along SR 323 would be approximately 760 feet.

The existing SR 52 typical section contains two 12-foot travel lanes with two-foot unpaved shoulders. The existing right-of-way is approximately 80 feet. The existing SR 323 typical section contains two 12-foot travel lanes with two-foot unpaved shoulders. The existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet. The existing SR 52 bridge over Candler Creek is approximately 112 feet long and 27.4 feet wide. The bridge contains two 12-foot travel lanes with one-foot shoulders.

The proposed SR 52typical section would be two 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot shoulders (two feet paved and eight feet grassed). The proposed right-of-way would vary from 80 to 210 feet. Easements up to 70 feet in width would be required on both sides of SR 52.

The proposed bridge would be constructed approximately 60 feet, centerline to centerline, north Of the existing bridge. The proposed bridge would be approximately 150 feet long and 48 feet wide. The typical section of the proposed bridge would be two 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot shoulders.

Since the proposed bridge would be constructed approximately 60 feet north of the existing bridge, there would be approximately 760 feet of construction along SR 323 in order to tie it into SR 52. The proposed SR 323 typical section would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes with 10- foot shoulders (two feet paved and eight feet grassed). The proposed right-of-way would vary from 100 to 250 feet. Easements up to 50 feet in width would be required on both sides of SR 323/Gillsville Highway.

During the staged construction, traffic would be maintained on the existing bridge and would be shifted to the new bridge once construction is complete. The existing bridge would then be demolished.

The proposed project would require approximately 4.68 acres of right-of-way, 0.01 acre of permanent easement, 1.61 acres of temporary construction easement, and 0.11 acre of temporary driveway easement.
