Abstract

This project would include construction of sidewalks and streetscape improvements along both sides of Fort Benning Road in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia (see attached Figure 1). The project would begin at Shelby Street and end at the gate entrance to Fort Benning military reservation. The project length is approximately .8 mile. Sidewalks would be constructed in compliance with American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The proposed project would add curb and gutter and 5-foot sidewalk, drainage, pedestrian lighting, and landscaping. Existing signals would be upgraded to mast arm signals. No additional right-of-way (ROW) would be required for the proposed project. The proposed corridor enhancement would improve the safety and aesthetics of the corridor. To improve the existing landscaping, additional landscaping and irrigation would be installed. All pedestrian lighting would have breakaway design.
