Abstract

The proposed project is an emergency project to repair damaged members to GDOT Bridge #051-0054-0 {also known as the Houlihan Bridge), located along SR 25/US 17 over the Savannah River, near the city of Port Wentworth (Figures 1 and 2). The repairs would consist of removal and replacement of some of the steel truss members of the bridge (Figures 3 and 4), including three of the four diagonals, and reconstruction of damaged portals in order to obtain a minimum vertical clearance of 16 feet 6 inches, and the repair or replacement of damaged vertical members will be in kind. As a result, the repairs to the bridge structure would allow for a greater vertical clearance for vehicular traffic. No additional right-of-way (ROW) would be required and no work is expected to be performed in the water.
