Abstract

Apogee Environmental & Archaeological, Inc. conducted a Phase I cultural resource survey of the proposed Transco Lawrenceville No. 3 Meter Station at the intersection of Alcovy Road and Campbell Road in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The approximately 1.4-acre project area is depicted on the Lawrenceville, GA (1985) USGS 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle. It is located approximately 550 feet (165 m) east of the intersection Alcovy Road and Sugarloaf Parkway, and 1.64 miles (2.64 km) southwest of the community of Dacula, Georgia. On September 3rd, 2015, Apogee personnel conducted a Phase I cultural resource survey including an intensive pedestrian survey supplemented with shovel testing of the project area as well as a visual inspection of potential historic properties within a one (1) kilometer radius of the project area. A total of 1.4 acres were archaeologically surveyed within the project area, and seventeen (17) potential historic property locations were visually inspected. According to the Georgia Cultural Resources Files and Library record search, there were no previously recorded archaeological sites or historic properties within the current project area. A total of four (4) previous recorded archaeological sites and six (6) previously recorded historic resources were identified within a one-mile radius of the project. The field survey identified no new archaeological sites or NRHP eligible historic properties within the Area of Potential Effects (APE) for either direct or indirect effects. As a result, no cultural resources listed or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) will be adversely affected by the proposed construction activities within the project area. No further archaeological investigations are recommended.
