Abstract

GDOT Project BRST0-0090-01(023) involves the replacement of US 221/SR 135 bridge over Whitehead Creek, located one mile north of the city of Denton in Jeff Davis County, Georgia. The preferred alignment would be approximately 0.61 mile in length, beginning at mile point 4.50 and ending at mile point 5.11. The preferred alternative would construct a new bridge parallel and to the east of the existing bridge. The existing 2-lane bridge has seven 27-foot long spans on concrete bents. The bridge is 189 feet long and 30 feet wide. The new bridge would be located approximately 20 feet from the existing bridge (measured centerline to centerline). The replacement bridge would be approximately 240 feet long and 48 feet wide (total width). The new replacement bridge will be stage-constructed to facilitate two-way traffic during construction. The preferred alignment would be designed to provide two 12 foot travel lanes with rural4-foot paved and 6-foot grassed outside shoulders.

The current right-of-way (ROW) ranges from 100 to 200 feet wide and the proposed ROW would be 114 feet to 200 feet wide.
