Abstract

The originally proposed project would widen and reconstruct Cobb Parkway (US 41 ), an urban principal arterial, from Paces Mill Road to Akers Mill Road. The existing roadway consists of four lanes with a variable width, two-way left-tum lanes, and right-tum lanes at most major intersections. The proposed project would widen US 41 to a 6-lane urban facility with 11-foot travel lanes and a raised median varying in width up to 26 feet. The project would also include a 12-foot multi-use path on the west side of US 41, and a 5-foot sidewalk on the east side of US 41. Additional right and left tum lanes would be added as needed at major intersections. The existing right-of-way (ROW) corridor varies in width from approximately 118 feet to 200 feet. The proposed ROW corridor, which includes required ROW and all easements, would vary from a total width of 155 feet to 309 feet. The project length is 0.84mile.

This reevaluation was due to the addition of two parking lots that would require additional ROW. It would consist of the construction of two asphalt parking lots, one with 20 parking spaces and the other with 27 spaces. The parking lots would have perimeter curb and gutter and internal tree islands. Construction would also require retaining walls in three locations and storm drainage systems. The total area of parking would be 0.51 acre and total land disturbance would be 1.07 acres.
