Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site includes a 90- foot by 120-foot area to be used for a telecommunications facility. Our client plans to acquire an approximate two-acre tract of land that has an existing approximate 70-foot by 120-foot fenced compound. They are proposing to expand the compound an additional 20-feet by 120-feet. The compound area would be used as a wireless telecommunications facility.
The existing compound area contains an approximate 25-foot by 30-foot single story equipment building built on an approximate 90-foot by 30-foot concrete pad. The remaining ground surface within the fenced area is covered with gravel. Sheets Communications is proposing to place a 250-foot self-supporting, lattice-type telecommunications structure (270-foot structure with appurtenances) and associated ground-level support equipment in the contained approximate 120-foot by 90-foot fenced compound. The facility would be located at 2893 Highway 341 near Hawkinsville, Houston County, Georgia.
This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases no previously recorded archaeological sites were identified within the area for direct effects. Furthermore, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered during the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment.
We conclude that the undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the proposed undertaking at the project site.
