Abstract

While this area is a part of the Di-Lane Plantation Wildlife Management Area, managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, according to the plans, the surrounding land is owned by the United States of America, Savannah District Corps of Engineers and would thus require an ARPA permit for shovel testing. Archaeological survey thus included only pedestrian survey along the existing roadway corridor. The existing road was deemed too disturbed for shovel testing, and testing beyond the existing right-of-way was deemed not necessary for completion of the archaeological review. This area had also been adequately surveyed by a previous consultant, Southeastern Archeological Services, in 1993 as part of the cultural resources survey for Di-Lane Plantation.
