Abstract

This report documents the results of the heritage resources survey for Stand 54, Compartment 933 for the Narrows Timber Sale in Chattooga County, Georgia (Figure 1). Twenty six acres were surveyed and one new site was recorded, as were two isolated finds (Figure 2). This report summarizes the results of a cultural resource inventory by the Chattahoochee-Oconee Zone Archeologist from May 2011. The inventory was conducted pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, 36 CFR 800, the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as amended, the USDA Forest Service Southern Region Programmatic Agreement, and the MOUs with the Georgia SHPO and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and the 2010 Chattahoochee-Oconee Historic Preservation Plan (Wettstaed 2010).

All artifacts, notes, maps, GPS data, and other collected materials are temporarily curated at the Blue Ridge Ranger District office in Blairsville, Georgia pursuant to 36 CFR 79. The archeological collections will be moved to the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology for long term curation under a Memorandum of Agreement between the UGA Anthropology Department and Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests.
