Abstract

On June 14, 1993, Brandon Higginbotham and Allen Freeman of this office conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of a proposed nature trail on the Oconee Wildlife Management Area in Putnam County, Georgia. They were assisted by Nick Nicholson, Wildlife Biologist for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The purpose of the survey was to determine whether cultural resources exist in the area of the proposed project construction. Surface inspections of the trail included eroded areas, animal and pedestrian trails, and the bases of the trees along the trail area. Shovel tests measured 30 em x 30 em and were dug down to subsoil . All shovel tests were screened through .25 inch hardware cloth.
