Abstract

At the request of Joey Mayson, Chip Morgan accompanied him and Lane Greene, architectural consultant, to the spring site in the Sandy Springs community in Fulton County. The spring site located on county property is the subject of a National Register nomination effort. For the spring site itself the concern is to identify any archaeological potential, either prehistorical or historical.

Plans for the property are to develop a heritage park emphasizing the role of the spring in the growth of the community. Concerns for the historical and archaeological integrity of the spring site have set priorities for development. Ensuring site eligibility has been a top priority, therefore,

Joey and Lane, having no archaeological expertise, sought technical assistance from the DNR office in identifying and evaluating archaeological potential.

After walking over the property with Joey Mayson and Lane Greene, Chip Morgan began to draw some preliminary conclusions about the spring site and archaeological potential. Topographical evidence of land surface modifications and documented intrusions cast a shadow on site integrity.
