Addendum Report for Phase I Archaeological Survey for ATMS Upgrades to 30 Intersections in Fulton County, Georgia

Abstract

The project would include the installation of equipment and software needed to implement adaptive traffic signal management, known as an Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS), including vehicle count stations and vehicle detection devices. This project would include the installation of necessary hardware and software components and the construction, engineering, and inspection phase of the installation. The intersection upgrades would include only the equipment needed to operate the adaptive signal control application. The detection devices would provide advance detection of vehicles approaching an intersection. Each device would be contained within a three-inch square housing and installed (flush-mounted) in a four-inch diameter pavement core at optimal locations near the intersections. It is anticipated that the system control boxes housing the radio repeater devices would be mounted on existing poles near the affected intersections.

Installation of vehicle detection and intersection signal communications would not modify existing lane dimensions or geometric design of the project area roadways. It is expected that all project work would be conducted within existing (ROW) limits. If suitable pole locations for the control boxes are not available, the project may include the installation of timber poles (less than 25 feet tall) on which radio repeater devices would be utilized to relay detection and vehicle count information to controllers. These poles would be installed within existing ROW. The acquisition of additional ROW for this project is not anticipated.

The total length of the project is approximately 5.3 +/- miles along Hammond Drive, Peachtree Dunwoody Road, Johnson Ferry Road, Glenridge Connector, Glenridge Drive, and Meridian Mark corridors near the GA-400 at I-285 interchange.
