Abstract

The Savannah District, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, is considering the need for improvements to the federally authorized channel at Brunswick Harbor, Georgia. Specifically the improvements under consideration at this time include widening of the existing Brunswick River Channel from the

Sidney Lanier bridge (U. S. Highway 17) westward to the vicinity of Colonels Island and Blythe Island. Bend widening at the junctions of the Brunswick River with the East River and Turtle River is also being considered. Two alternate disposal sites for the dredged material are under study at this time. These are an open water disposal site located to the east of Jekyl Island in the Atlantic Ocean and beach nourishment on the north end of the Atlantic Ocean shore of Jekyl Island. The location of dredging and alternate disposal areas are shown on Sheets 1, 2, and 3 and the site map.
