Abstract

Southern Research, Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc. has conducted an Intensive

Phase I Cultural Resources Survey at the Towne Park Drive Property in Effingham County, Georgia (Figures 1 and 2). The 9.67 acre Area of Potential Effect (APE) lies west of Route 21/ South Columbia Ave and north of Town Park Drive West.

The survey was mandated by the Section 404 of the Clean Water Act of 1948 (33 USC1344), as amended; the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (16 USC 470), as amended; and 36 CFR Part Boo. This report provides the documentation regarding any effect the proposed project will have on significant historic properties that are listed on or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

The search of the Georgia Archaeological Site Files (GASF) on GNAHRGIS showed four previously recorded archaeological sites (9Ef7, 9Ef259, 9Ef260 and 9Ef263) within one half mile of the APE. They are all prehistoric Native American sites on the same or similar landform. A search for previously recorded Historic Structures using GNAHGIS determined that there are none in or adjacent to the APE.

The intensive survey of the property found no archaeological sites or historic structures listed on or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the opinion of the Principal Investigator that the proposed development will have no effect to any significant cultural resource.
