Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The proposed undertaking would include a proposed 60-foot by 60-foot (18-meter by 18-meter) lease area that would include a 124-foot overall height monopine telecommunications structure and associated ground-level support equipment. The proposed lease area would be accessible by a proposed approximate 370-foot long by 30-foot wide (113-meter by 9-meter) access easement and would also include a proposed approximate 255-foot long by 10-foot wide (78-meter by 3-meter) utility easement. The subject site is located at 890 Franklin Road, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, we found two previously recorded archaeological sites (9C030 and 407) and nine survey reports (2603, 2970, 3685, 3998, 6306, 6310, 6311, 6943, and 7616), within our standard 1-mile background research radius, but not within or near the APE for direct effects. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered.

We conclude that the undertaking would not affect any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the proposed undertaking at the project site.

ECA was contracted by TowerCom V, LLC to perform an archaeological assessment as part of the Section l 06 Review process for the proposed telecommunications facility. The facility would be located at 890 Franklin Road, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia. The purpose of our work was to determine whether any archaeological sites might exist within the project impact area. During the pedestrian survey, no archaeological sites or cultural artifacts were identified. Based on our site observations, it appears that the project area has been previously disturbed by the construction/destruction of the paved asphalt lot.

During the course of this archaeological assessment, no sites, either historic or prehistoric, were

located in the APE for direct effects. We believe that no archaeological cultural resources will be affected by the proposed project. Therefore, we recommend a finding of ''No Effect" for the proposed undertaking as it relates to archaeology.
