Abstract

Cannon's Point, on the north end of St. Simons Island, Georgia, is a rare and unusual place. Containing abundant pristine natural and cultural resources on its 617 acres, the site has become the focus of an ambitious conservation program by the St. Simons Land Trust aimed at protection, preservation, and interpretation. The Land Trust is currently working to acquire the tract in order to create a development-free "quasi-wilderness preserve," accessible to the public, that will highlight the rich ecological, historical, and educational opportunities that exist there. One of the ftrst initiatives is to create a low-impact nature path on a portion of the site. As shown in Figure 1, the path is approximately 3 km long and consists of two segments.
