Abstract

TerraXplorations, Inc. (TerraX) of Mobile, Alabama was contracted by Trileaf Corporation of Maitland, Florida to conduct a Phase I cultural resources survey for the proposed McDUFFIE - A tower in Wilcox County, Georgia. The proposed tower will be a self-support type constructed to a height of 255 ft. The Area of Potential Effects (APE) for direct effects includes a .23 acre lease area with a proposed .16 acre access and utility easement extending 170 ft. in length by 30 ft. in width westward from GA Highway 112. The total area of the direct effects APE including the lease area and joint access and utility easement amounts to .39 acres.

Background research and the field survey followed guidelines established under the FCC Programmatic Agreement. One previous archaeological survey is located within a 0.75-mile radius of the current study area. No previously recorded archaeological sites are located within a 0.75-mile radius of the current study area. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no new archaeological cultural resources were encountered. A review of recorded historic properties at the Georgia Historic Preservation Division in Stockbridge, Georgia did not reveal any historic properties within the visual effects APE. Based on the findings of this investigation, TerraX recommends no further investigation for the proposed McDUFFIE - A cellular tower project.
